Kowalowa [kɔvaˈlɔva] (German: Schmidtsdorf) is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Mieroszów, within Wałbrzych County, Lower Silesian Voivodeship, in south-western Poland.[1] It lies approximately 2 kilometres (1 mi) east of Mieroszów, 14 km (9 mi) south of Wałbrzych, and 78 km (48 mi) south-west of the regional capital Wrocław.

Before 1945 the area was part of Germany. After World War II the region was placed under Polish administration and ethnically cleansed according to the post-war Potsdam Agreement. The native German populace was expelled and replaced with Poles. (For more information about the history of the region, see Silesia.)
