Kota Damansara

Kota Damansara is a township located in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia. It is spread across 4,000 acre (16 km²) of land.

It is also a state seat constituency which is sandwiched between Shah Alam and Petaling Jaya. Notable landmarks located within the constituency are the old Subang Airport and the Rubber Research Institute of Malaysia. Kota Damansara comes under the Subang parliamentary constituency.

History

The township was previously a forest reserve, bordered in the west by the Sungai Buloh Industrial Park, in the south by the Tropicana Golf and Country Club and on the south-east by Bandar Utama Damansara. The development of Kota Damansara first began in 1992 and was initially undertaken solely by PKNS. The pace of development picked up when PKNS decided to develop parcels via joint ventures or privatisation. Excluding developments by private developers and joint ventures, PKNS has launched more than 8,500 units, with an average take up rate of more than 85%. As at end of 2005, the estimated population of Kota Damansara was 300,000 and rising [reference?].

The land is owned by the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS), and is being jointly developed through privatisation, joint ventures, and by PKNS itself. Of the total area, 1,500 acres (6 km²) have been earmarked for housing. Divided into 12 sections:-

i) Section 1 (Selangor Teknology Park) mostly factory, factory zone;

ii) Section 2 same as section 1, factories area;

iii) Section 3 De Kota, mostly shoplots and corporate factories. Latest development is The Core by Sunsuria, along Jalan Teknologi in front of Uptown;

iv) Section 4, Jalan Camar 4/xx, where D'Shire Villa, SMK Seksyen 4 Kota Damansara, Petronas Station (with KFC), Villa Damansara, Sierra Damansara and medium-cost apartments are;

v) Section 5, Jalan Sepah Puteri 5/xx, more familiar known as Seri Utama (developed by See Hoy Chan);

vi) Section 6, Jalan Cecawi 6/xx, where the drive thru restaurant McDonald's, Pizza Hut & KFC are;

vii) Section 7, Jalan Nuri 7/xx, where you can find Dewan Orang Ramai MBPJ;

viii) Section 8, Jalan Pekaka 8/xx, where you can find Pusrawi Hospital, PKNS Branch, Pejabat Pendaftaran;

ix) Section 9, Jalan Rimba Riang 9/xx, famous with high end bangalow and bangalow land, and also grave yard conflict;

x) Section 10, Jalan Merbah 10/xx, famous with Selangor Polo Club;

xi) Section 11, Jalan Kenyalang 11/xx, famous with Carrefour & Bayu Damansara.

xii)Section 12, famous with Dataran Sunway, The Strand, Giant Hypermarket,

xiii) Section 13, famous with Palm Spring Condominium.

Some 1,000 acres (4 km²) have been set aside for a botanical garden. Other amenities include the Selangor Polo Country Club , Seri Selangor Golf Course, three primary and secondary schools and one smart private school (Sri KDU), SEGi University and Tropicana Medical Centre and the International University College of Technology Twintech (IUCTT).

Accessibility

The township is accessible via the Damansara-Puchong Expressway (LDP) via Persiaran Surian, the old Batu Tiga-Sungai Buloh road and via its own interchange to the New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE). This interchange is located immediately before the Damansara interchange if one is heading to Klang.

Active property developers in Kota Damansara are PKNS, Sunway Bhd, Dijaya Corporation Bhd, Encorp Berhad, Andaman Group, Sunsuria Group as well as many others.

Before the rapid development and commercialization of Kota Damansara, there were only a handful of residential developments which comprises mostly low to medium-cost apartments as well as terrace houses. By 2010, luxurious condominiums, semi detached houses and bungalows are a common sight within the area. These high end properties are mostly located at Section 4, 8, 9, 10 and 11.

The property prices in Kota Damansara have increased tremendously as more people are migrating into the area due to the an abundance of amenities offered as well as being a safe and comfortable housing area. Furthermore, it was recently announced that there will be six MRT stations planned for the township. They are named Kampung Baru Sungai Buloh, Rubber Research Institute (RRI) of Malaysia, Kota Damansara North, Taman Industri Sungai Buloh, Kota Damansara South and Dataran Sunway.
