Chennai Korattur is situated in the northwest part of Chennai, India. It is a part of the Chennai Corporation and located along the Chennai-Mumbai railroad about 12 km from the Chennai Central. Being situated in close proximity to Anna Nagar and similarly developed with TNHB Layouts, Korattur is often considered to be an integral part of Anna Nagar

The place has developed from being a calm village in the early 20th century to an urban township of today due to the expansion of the Chennai city and the industrial development of west Chennai. The neighbourhood is served by Korattur railway station of the Chennai Suburban Railway.

Korattur was once famous for its lakes and water bodies that have now been encroached and reduced to tiny ponds as a byproduct of industrial development. The huge lake called 'Korattur aeri' has now become a pile of wasteland and a collection of urban sewage.[1] This makes the place highly notorious during the October–December rainy season for water logging. It is not unusual for people to wade in hip-deep water in the roads during this time thanks to sudden cyclonic downpour and improper drainage systems . But is the recent past Korattur has got good roads in Chennai city limits. The main road (East & Central Avenue) have been laid as 4 lane road with a median, such that each side has a 2 lanes with parking facility.

Korattur is famous for its thick foliage. The main road leading from Padi is populated with thick and old trees on both sides, so much so that the canopy renders the sky only partially visible. There are many other streets with such high tree-density, most notably the 18th Street and 12th/15th Street junction. In between 2nd / 14th / 15th and 18th street is a sufficiently spacious park where children play merrily after school and it also has a walking / jogging track. There are also many beautiful location beyond Korattur railway station (i.e. Chennai 76 ). Korattur is one of the place in Chennai to have detailed and planned TNHB colony and surrounded with thick greenery and trees around all places. In the recent past the old flats are replaced by news ones constructed by GR Natarajan, Pushkar, Landmark, Marvel, GreenPeace, India Builders & Firm Foundations coming with mega projects.
