Koramangala is a locality in Bangalore, India. Situated in the south-eastern part of the city, it is one of the largest neighborhoods, and is a highly sought after residential locality with wide tree-lined boulevards and a mix of luxury apartments, commercial structures, and posh bungalows. It has gradually developed into a commercial hub.[1]

Koramangala is largely cosmopolitan in nature. It is the focal point of many busy main roads, notably the Intermediate Ring Road (linking the Airport Road with Hosur Road and Electronics City), Sarjapur Road (leading to the Outer Ring Road, the IT corridor and beyond) and 80 Feet Road (leading to Viveknagar and MG Road at the center of Bangalore). It commands one of the highest property prices in the city and is considered by Bangaloreans to be one of the better places to live, although commercialization in the form of shopping centres, malls and restaurants, increasing traffic and population have posed problems for its residents.

Koramangala is also home to many educational institutions like the St. John's Medical College, Christ University, Indian Institute of Plantation Management, Amity Global Business School, NuSkillz Academy, Jyoti Nivas College, Vemana Institute of Technology, Indian Institute of Astrophysics, NMIMS, and TAPMI.

Several software companies have locations in Koramangala, including Microclix, Infosys, Wipro, NDS, Siemens VDO, Microland, ThoughtWorks, Zenith Software, Tally Solutions, Methode Electronics, Texas Instruments, Robert Bosch GmbH, Mindtree, Lucent Technologies, Toshiba Software India Pvt. Ltd. (TSIP), Piterion, Tavant Technologies, Ciber, IT training Company Koenig Solutions Ltd. and the Indian e-commerce firm Flipkart.

Geography

Koramangala is divided into 8 blocks spread over approximately 1800 acres. Blocks 1–4 are separated from blocks 5–8 by the Old Airport Road leading to Domlur/Indiranagar. Up to the 1970s, one would pass the village of Adugodi on the Hosur Road and then usually bypass Koramangala which was on the left while going to the industrial suburbs of Bommanahalli or Bommasandra, about 10 and 20 kilometres away respectively. Settlement was sparse in Koramangala and only towards the late '70s did more houses get constructed. The road to Bommanahalli and Bommasandra now houses Electronics City, home to many technology firms including the global software giant Infosys.[2] [3] The former Koramangala tank was drained, and the National Games Village apartment complex was built on it.
