Konnur is a panchayat town in Belgaum district in the Indian state of Karnataka.

Geography

Konnur is located at 16°12′N 74°45′E / 16.2°N 74.75°E. It has an average elevation of 606 metres (1988 feet). Konnur is a village on the river bank of Ghataprapha River located in Gokak taluk of Belgaum District, Karnataka State.. it has history from 10th century there is Ramalingeshwar and Lord Shiva Temples in Konnur which dated back 1050 century. Konnur has a history of Chalukya's empire it was a main place which made in agriculture is main and so many temples are there namely Lord Shiva . There is a famous clothing centre: Shantinath & Mahaveer cloth center(Aishwarya Fashion). wholesale rate and good quality cloths in Shantinath & Mahaveer cloth ceter(Aishwarya Fashion). This shop is famous for quality cloths and for wholesale rates.

Demographics

As of 2011 India census,[1] Konnur had a population of 20,617. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Konnur has an average literacy rate of 60%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 70%, and female literacy is 49%. In Konnur, 13% of the population is under 6 years of age. Most of the people dependent on agriculture.literacy rate has gone up in recent years. Gokak falls is just 3 km away from this town. This town has a Railway station called as Gokak road. It is a small town and has a beautiful river I.E River Ghataprabha. All caste people stay here for e;g beda, harijana, lingayats and Muslims, Christians, Jain. As on 2012 January it has 2 private schools and 1 govt,school. Shantisagar shikshan samsthe and kadasiddeswar shikshan samithi are 2 private schools there, doing their best to educate the children of this particular town. The town has two jain temples, basadi, 3 mosques and many Hindu temples. The town has colonies like Padma nagar, mahaveer nagar, hosa oni, Jain galli, Ambedkar nagar, Valmiki nagar, etc.

This small town has the reputation of sending its students to IISc-Indian Institute of Science,(http://www.iisc.ernet.in/) and IFIM(http://www.ifimbschool.com),other engineering as well MBA colleges across Karnataka and also in multinational companies of both Indian and western origin like ,PUNJLOYD, IBM, TCS, HCL, SASKEN and many other.
