The Kongu Engineering College (or KEC) (Tamil: கொங்கு பொறியியல் கல்லூரி[1]) is an ISO certified institution located at KEC Nagar Perundurai, Erode of Tamil Nadu in India. It was founded by Kongu Vellalar Institute of Technology Trust (KVITT) in 1984. To achieve technical excellence in their rural areas, 41 philanthropists from different walks of life, who realized the need for technical education formed KVITT.
Kongu Engineering College has an air conditioned auditorium that accommodates 5,000 people. The Institution is a possession of Kongu Vellalar Institute of Technology Trust in Erode District, Tamil Nadu. Kongu Vellalar is an influential community in western part of Tamil Nadu.
Affiliated to Anna University, Chennai, the college has completed 27 years in the field of technical education. The institution has an area of 173.25 acres (70.11 ha) of land. It is ranked 4th overall among the list of private Engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu, and also, it comes in the list of top 60 private and government engineering colleges combined in India.
The college became an autonomous university in 2009.

In the Applied Science category, there are three undergraduate and four postgraduate degrees offered.
Co-curricular and extracurricular activities are run through associations, clubs, societies and students' chapters of professional bodies. They are managed by representatives of students and are monitored by the faculty.
Library
The college library was established in 1984, housed in a classroom with 700 books. In 1986 when the college was shifted to its permanent building, the library occupied a lecture hall in the first floor of the main building. In 1991, it was shifted to the present building, C.D. Memorial Library, in honor of the founder Correspondent, Thiru. C. Duraisamy. In 2005, the library building was extended from five sections to 12 sections with discussion rooms, modern furniture, and air conditioning. The new building includes a hall for Tele-conferencing. The Library transactions and library entries are carried out by Bar Code Technology. It has the facility of Web OPAC-online search. So the library catalogue can be accessed through an intranet, and soon through the internet. The library subscribes to INDEST AICTE- Consortium for utilizing the E-resources.
Placement
The Placement Cell was established in 1998. The cell arranges campus interviews with organisations for placement of final year students, and arranges in-industry training for students. Campus placement training (HR, Technical, GD, Written Test) is given in the pre-final year for all eligible candidates.
The Placement Cell does the following::
- Gives 150 hours of training to all eligible candidates as part of the campus placement training program.
- Conducts soft skills training program (100 hours) for all pre-final year students through staff trained by Infosys Technologies.
- Department placement coordinators assist campus interviews and training programs.
- Signs MOUs with leading industries like Wipro, Cognizant, Infosys and FL-Smidth.
- Conducts online tests for improvement of English language.
Total placement as of December 2012 for the 2009-2013 batch was 491.

The college auditorium is named the Convention Centre. The center has an indoor basketball court, and three badminton courts. Its capacity is 5000 people.
TBI
In order to recognize and reward the remarkable work done by business incubators and technology parks in the area of incubating and nurturing technology based start-ups, the National Science & Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board (NSTEDB), Department of Science and Technology, Government of India has instituted a National Award for Technology Business Incubators. The award carries a Cash Prize of Rupees Three lakh, a Trophy and a Certificate. Technology Business Incubator @ Kongu Engineering College (TBI@KEC) has won the above award for the year 2012. It may be mentioned that this award in earlier years has been won only by premier institutions like IIT-Kanpur, IIM-Ahmedabad, IIT-Bombay, PSG-Tech and VIT.
