Kollur is a village and mandal headquarter of Kollur mandal, located in Guntur district of the state Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.[2]

History

The Oldest epic-drama "Chintamani" is the real story of this village and the Bhavani Sankaram from Srikakulam of Krishna District was from the other side of River Krishna. The Heroine Chintamani lived in this village. It used to be one of the major agrahaarams during satavaahanas era when Srikakulam(in krishna district) was their capital. It was famous for diamonds during sri Krishnadevaraya period and the world famous "Koh-i-Noor" diamond was found here.[3] ome of the most famous diamonds mined in the Kollur mines are: • Koh-i Nūr (186ct) - in the British Crown Jewels, London • The Great Moghul Diamond (787ct) - Lost after Nādir Shāh sacked Delhi • The Pitt or Regent Diamond (410ct) - in the Apollo Gallery, Louvre Museum, Paris • The Orloff Diamond (300 ct) - in the Diamond Treasury, Kremlin, Moscow • Nizām Diamond (340ct) - in the Nizām's Treasury, Hyderabad • Daryā-ye Nūr (182 ct) - in the Iranian Crown Jewels, on display:Central Bank of Iran,Tehran • The Hope Diamond (67ct) - in the American Museum of Natural History, theSmithsonian Institution, Washington • The Golconda (135ct) - belonging to Dunklings Jewellers, Melbourne, Australia. • The Kolluru Diamond (63ct) - Purchased by Tavernier and present location unknown. • Dresden Green Diamond (41 ct) - "The New Green Vault" in the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden.

Geography

Agriculture and Brick Industry

Major income is generated from agriculture. People cultivate paddy(rice), banana(chakrakeli), turmeric, pulses(minumulu, pesalu), corn, vegetables etc.

The village is famous for Brick Manufacturing.[5] The soil which is available at the bank of Krishna river is very good to make bricks. Every year millions of bricks are manufactured and transported to nearby districts and far off places like Hyderabad too. There are around 400 trucks owned by the local citizens. The Brick industry was started by Sri. Koganti Venkata Rattaiah.[6] Kolluru bricks are considered the best bricks to construct houses.

Religious Worships

In Kolluru there is a Shiva temple located in the middle of the village. It is the oldest temple facing towards the East. There is also a 200 year old Lord Vishnu temple facing towards the South. There is also a high school which was constructed in 1894. Sri potuluri Veera Brahmendra Swami temple, Very old Chinthalamma temple, Sivalayam, Vishnalayam, Kanaka Durga Gudi, Rama Mandiram, Anjaneya Gudi, Shri Sai Baba Temple, Shankara Matam, Samskrutha Patashala is very famous. There are few churches too. Near to Kollur,There was a village Avulavaripalem which having the oldest Kodanda Rama temple which was built in 1904. The kodandarama swamy was very famous in their near by villages.The temple having an excellent history.The temple was build Because one Garuda pakshi told one sadhu who lived in that village.
