Kobalt Music Group (KMG), also known as Kobalt Music, is the leading global, independent music publisher and music services company. Founded in 2000 by CEO Willard Ahdritz, Kobalt acts primarily as an administrative publishing company, and also offers label services and neighboring rights to its clients. Kobalt Music Group was established as a co-investment with New Media Spark, the London listed investment group. Kobalt has offices worldwide in London, New York, Los Angeles, Nashville, Atlanta, Berlin, Stockholm and Sydney.

Music Publishing

Kobalt Music Publishing (KMP) has become the largest independent music publisher by providing its clients with a technology-driven system paired with creative services. The company takes a small administration fee, and its technology platform gives its artists a constant flow of information about sales and royalties through their proprietary Portal. Kobalt's pioneering collection technology platform bypasses the middleman and collects directly from societies, iTunes, Spotify, YouTube and most major distributors resulting in 20–30% higher revenues for its artists and writers.

Label Services

Kobalt Label Services (KLS) was founded in 2012 when Kobalt acquired digital distributor AWAL.[1] Kobalt Label Services provides record label services to artists, receiving a share of revenues, while allowing artists to retain ownership of their master rights. KLS physical distribution in the U.S. is through Super D Alliance while digital distribution globally is though Kobalt's wholly owned AWAL platform, which distributes and promotes the recorded music of more than 6,000 independent labels and artists. Kobalt obtains access to AWAL's worldwide distribution network of more than 200 digital retail partners, including iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, eMusic, Rhapsody, 7Digital, Beatport, Deezer, and Nokia.

Neighboring Rights

Kobalt Neighboring Rights (KNR) claims neighbouring rights royalties owed from collection societies across the globe on behalf of all KNR clients. Kobalt works directly with collection societies around the world - effectively reducing the number of links in the chain, increasing collection value, and reducing collection times.
