Kitty Flanagan is an Australian comedian and writer who works in Australia and the United Kingdom. She has also performed in France, Germany, Holland and Japan and at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and Montreal Just For Laughs Festival.[1]
Career
Flanagan is best known in Australia for her work on the television series Full Frontal and in the United Kingdom (UK) for her work on The Sketch Show. Before getting a job at Full Frontal, Kitty spent five years as a copywriter before moving into stand-up.[2]
Flanagan moved to the UK in 2001 to further her comedy career and returned to live in Australia in 2009. In 2009 Flanagan starred in the Comedy Channel's "I Can't Believe It's Not Better".
Well known for sketch comedy as well as stand-up, Kitty has also appeared on TV shows such as The Micallef Program, Good News Week and Spicks & Specks and had numerous TV stand-up appearances, including The World Stands Up on Comedy Central. She previously appeared on The Project, providing a humorous view of trending news topics.[3]
In 2015, Flanagan was the Ambassador for the Adelaide Fringe Festival. [4]
Hosting
Flanagan hosted the Melbourne International Comedy Festival in 2010.
Awards
In 2013, Flanagan won the best comedy award at the Adelaide Fringe Festival.[5] She also received a Barry Award nomination for Best Show at the 2013 Melbourne International Comedy Festival.[6]
Community and charity work
On 12 June 2013, Flanagan appeared on an edition of Adam Hills Tonight and spoke of her involvement with the Delta Society, as a volunteer taking trained dogs to visit hospitals, care facilities and schools across Australia.[7]
Personal life
Her father, John Flanagan, is an Australian author, best known for the Ranger's Apprentice novel series.[8] She is the sister of singer/songwriter/musician and novelist, Penny Flanagan, who commonly appears in her shows. Penny writes and performs original music.[9] She also has a brother, who is a chef and runs a coffee shop in the snowfields of Japan.
