King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT, มหาวิทยาลัยเทคโนโลยีพระจอมเกล้าธนบุรี) is a leading technology academy in Thailand, focusing on teaching and researching in engineering and technology as well as serving industry. The short famous name of the university is "Bangmod", a local name for the area around the university. KMUTT is located in Thung Khru district, Bangkok and it was officially founded on April 18, 1960. The university has three campuses: two of them in Bangkok (Bang Mod and Bangkhuntian) and the third one in Ratchaburi province.
History
King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi can trace its origin to the Thonburi Technical College (TTC) which was established on February 4, 1960 by the Department of Vocational Education, Ministry of Education. TTC has as its objective the training of technicians, technical instructors and technologists. By the virtue of the Technology Act, enacted April 21, 1971, three technical institutes are under the Department of Vocational Education: Thonburi Technical Institute (TTI), North Bangkok Technical Institute, and Nonthaburi Telecommunication Institute. They were combined to form one degree-granting institution under the name of King Mongkut's Institute of Technology (KMIT) constituting three campuses. TTC thus became KMIT Thonburi campus. In 1974, KMIT was transferred from the Ministry of Education to the Ministry of University Affairs.
A new Technology Act was enacted February 19, 1986: the three campuses of KMIT became three autonomous institutes, each having the status of university. KMIT Thonburi campus became King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Thonburi (KMITT).
On March 7, 1998 as announced in the Royal Gazette, KMITT became King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi. KMUTT is the first among public universities in Thailand to receive full autonomy. Its administrative system is now patterned after international government-owned universities. The new act gives KMUTT total control over its budget, allows it to own and manage property, and grants authority to set up new faculties and departments as well as introduce new academic programs.

All of the symbols are located in a 2 layered circle which has characters both in Thai and English showing the name of the university which attach inside the down curved of the circle.[2] This mark can used and seen in announcements, official documents and is included in all of ceremonies of the university.[3] The local flower of King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi is "Thammaruksa", a flower that can easily can be found in this university since it was set up. The color of the flower corresponds with the official color of the university. Moreover, it is an auspicious color for students and personnel, as its meaning is "dharma" which naturally protects people who follow in dharma.
Academic programs
Development of academic programs of KMUTT can be broadly grouped into three periods. These are
- First decade: The mission of the university was to produce technicians (through three-year programs after Grade 12) and practical engineers (through five-year programs after Grade 12) and technical instructors for technical colleges (through two-year programs after technician diploma) at bachelor degree level.
- Second decade: The university established a broader academic program in science and technology by offering bachelor degree programs in engineering and multidisciplinary technologies.
- Third decade: New areas in science, engineering and multidisciplinary technologies are covered at bachelor, master and doctoral degree levels resulting in increased emphasis on research, development and international academic cooperation. Five doctoral programs in engineering and multidisciplinary technology are offered. A Master's program in applied linguistics and bachelor programs in architecture have been initiated. Technical services units were established.

History of SIT
In the 20th century the advancement of modern communications has increased. The Technology affect daily life. Thailand doesn’t have a professional of information and technology. It is the reason why Thailand still be undevelopment country. It causes to don’t have sufficient personnel to develop the country. So in 1995, the government has announced this year to be "Thailand Information Technology Year". In this year, School of Information Technology King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi was founded for first direct institution that is technology courses. At that time, there were a few institutions in the world that focus on information technology curriculum.
“School of Information Technology” King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi was operated in 1995 by Dr.Krissanapong Kirtikara. He is the principle of this University. He has purpose for increase the graduate student and the graduate student from School of Information and Technology to developing technology and services for institute within and without university.
Teaching was conducted during 1996 - 2008 with a professor teaching by video conference. The teacher can teach student in Bangmod and Ratchaburi at the same time by using video conference. It is the good ways to extend the opportunities for study.
“School of Information Technology has the continuous improvement in all aspects. For example, teaching on practical applications with leading IT organizations. Students can learn on their own e-learning systems. SIT promoted and shared technology community. The concept is to reduce the digital gap in Thailand.
Nowadays, SIT has two curricular courses for graduates and undergraduate courses. That is Information Technology and Computer Science Courses (in English). A Master's degree has Information Technology, Computer Science courses, Master of Business Information Systems, Software Engineering course and Bioinformatics courses(In conjunction with the School of Bio resources and Technology) and Doctor’s degree have Information Technology programs and Computer Science courses. Since its inception, the company has produced more than 6,000 graduates and IT professionals to serve both academic and professional societies. It is widely accepted along with the reputation of the University. It truly is apparent.
