Kimberly Ann Guilfoyle (/ˈkɪmbərli ˈɡɪlfɔɪl/; (born March 9, 1969)[1] is an American cable news personality and one of the co-hosts of the programs The Five and Outnumbered on the Fox News Channel.[2] She is a contributor to The O'Reilly Factor and Hannity, and is an occasional guest host for On the Record w/ Greta Van Susteren.

She was previously an anchor at Court TV and a legal analyst/commentator for Fox News and ABC. She is also known as the former wife of current California Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom and was First Lady of San Francisco during Newsom's first year as mayor.

Early life

Guilfoyle is a second-generation American, born in San Francisco to a Puerto Rican mother and an Irish father. She grew up in the Mission District and Westlake and is a graduate of Mercy High School. Guilfoyle's mother, Mercedes, taught special education, and died of leukemia when Guilfoyle was ten. Her father, Tony, was born in Ennis, County Clare, Ireland; and came to the U.S. at the age of 20. After serving 4 years in the US Army, he took up work in the construction trades. He later became a real estate investor and a close advisor to Mayor Newsom, until his death in 2008. Known as the "Godfather" in inner political circles his mantra was "For The People".[3][4]

Education

Guilfoyle graduated magna cum laude from the University of California, Davis, and received her Juris Doctor (J.D.) from the University of San Francisco School of Law in 1994. While in law school, she interned at the San Francisco district attorney's office. She also modeled for local department stores, including Macy's, and modeled Victoria's Secret lingerie in a bridal magazine.[5]

She also studied at Trinity College, Dublin in Ireland. While there, she was published for her research in international children's rights and European Economic Community law.[6]

Career

After law school, Guilfoyle briefly worked as a prosecutor in San Francisco, but lost her job in 1996 when Terence Hallinan was elected District Attorney and fired fourteen of the city's prosecutors.[7]

Guilfoyle then spent four years in Los Angeles as a Deputy District Attorney, working on adult and juvenile cases, including narcotics, domestic violence, kidnapping, robbery, arson, sexual assault and homicide cases. She received several awards at the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office, including Prosecutor of the Month.[6]

In 2000, Guilfoyle was re-hired by Hallinan in the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office, where she served as an Assistant District Attorney from 2000 to 2004. While Assistant D.A., she and lead prosecutor James Hammer earned a conviction in the 2002 case People v. Noel and Knoller, a second-degree murder trial involving a dog mauling that received international attention.[8][9]

In January 2004, Guilfoyle moved to New York to host the program Both Sides on Court TV, as well as to take a job as a legal analyst on Anderson Cooper 360°.

Guilfoyle joined Fox News Channel in February 2006, as host of the weekend show The Lineup. Though The Lineup was eventually canceled, she is currently one of the co-hosts of the series The Five and Outnumbered. She also regularly appears on The O'Reilly Factor's recurring segment "Is it Legal?", Hannity, Red Eye w/Greg Gutfeld, and as a weekly Thursday guest on Brian Kilmeade's Kilmeade and Friends radio show.[6]

Controversies

On the July 31, 2009 episode of Glenn Beck, Guilfoyle claimed that clicking on the government's Cash for Clunkers Web page (cars.gov) would give the government complete access to one's home computer. The claim was debunked by both the watchdog website PolitiFact.com[10] and the urban legends site Snopes.com.[11]

On the May 21, 2014 episode of The Five, Guilfoyle incorrectly conflated the government-funded Veterans Affairs health care system to the privately-funded Affordable Care Act, stating, "If [Obama] shines a light on [failures within the VA system], if we actually have some illumination there, then you're going to see this is really what the rest of you all are going to get: one big fat VA system in the form of Obamacare." Guilfoyle's statement earned a "Pants on Fire" rating from PolitiFact.com.[12][13]

On the October 21, 2014 episode of The Five, Guilfoyle may have implied that young females in America should not vote in elections or be on juries. On a later episode, she defended her words, saying "It's important to exercise your right to vote, and it's also important to educate yourself on the issues before making decisions that will directly impact the country." Guifoyle's co-hosts defended her remarks saying that liberal organizations like Media Matters took her words "out of context." Dana Perino added that Guilfoyle recently went to an event to encourage female voting.[14]

On March 2, 2015 on a live Facebook chat with fans of their tv show the Five, Dana Perino and Kimberly Guilfoyle were answering questions. Kimberly was asked how tall she was. Every internet site, including IMDB, BodyMeasurements, and every Google search has listed Ms. Guilfoyle as 5'2". This is Ms Guilfoyle's Facebook response: Kimberly Guilfoyle: 5'7 wikipedia has it wrong! 20 · March 2 at 3:19pm It would appear that Ms. Guilfoyle, who is never seen wearing less than 5" heels, is adding her heel height to her actual height in stocking feet. She claims Wikipedia has it wrong, although, Wikipedia currently does not list her height. By "Wikipedia" she may be referring to internet sites in general, all of whom list her at 5'2". It is not unheard of for celebrities to exaggerate their measurements.

Personal life

In 2001, she married Gavin Newsom, then a city supervisor, who was elected mayor of San Francisco in 2003. While married to Newsom, she went by the name Kimberly Guilfoyle Newsom. In January 2005, citing the strain of a bi-coastal marriage, Guilfoyle filed for divorce from Newsom. Their divorce was finalized on February 28, 2006.[15]

On May 27, 2006, Guilfoyle married furniture heir Eric Villency on the island of Barbados. On October 4, 2006, she gave birth to her first child, a boy named Ronan Anthony.[16] Guilfoyle and Villency announced their separation in June 2009 and eventually divorced.[17]

Guilfoyle is Roman Catholic.[18]
