Kim Ah-young (born November 6, 1992; Hangul: 김아영), better known by her stage name Yura (Hangul: 유라), is a South Korean idol singer and actress. She is a member of the girl group, Girl's Day under Dream Tea Entertainment.

Early life and education

Kim Ah-young was born on November 6, 1992 in Ulsan, South Korea. She had attended Ulsan Art High School, where she served as a dance major. Yura is currently attending Dongduk Women's University, alongside fellow group member Minah.[1]

Career

In 2010, Yura became a member of the K-pop girl group Girl's Day, where she and Lee Hyeri replaced two of the former members, Jiin and Jisun, who left after having been with the group for two months.[2]

In 2012, Yura made her acting debut when she was cast a role on Sohu TV's Chinese drama Secret Angel, where she played the role of Yubin.[3] She then collaborated with her label-mate Jevice with their single "I Want to Love Now".[4] Yura then was cast a role on SBS's drama To the Beautiful You, where played the cameo role of Lee Eun-yeong, who was the fan of Kang Tae-jun.[5]

In 2014, Yura starred in the music video of Wheesung's "Night and Day" along with C.A.P of Teen Top. She then became one of the official couples for the variety show We Got Married, where she was paired with model turned actor Hong Jong-hyun.[6]

Lawsuit

On November 8, 2010, Yura's ex-management company Action Music Entertainment sued Yura for breaking her contract with their company. Yura was supposed to become a member of a girl group under Action Music Entertainment, prior to joining Girl's Day. The 4-member girl group under Action Music Entertainment was then halted indefinitely. According to Yura's side, she was not supported by Action Music Entertainment and through due process her contract was canceled. The lawsuit became messy with Action Music Entertainment insisting they had a video of Yura's unacceptable behavior. On January 20, 2011, the court ruled in Yura's favor.[7]
