Kilcoole railway station (Irish: Stáisiún Chill Chomghaill) is a railway station in Kilcoole, County Wicklow, Ireland. The station serves the village of the same name and the town of Newtownmountkennedy. The station has 1 platform.

History

The station was opened on 30 October 1855 by the Dublin, Wicklow and Wexford Railway as Kilcoole & Newtownmountkennedy.[1] The station was closed in 1964 due to a lack of resources or use. It reopened on 2 November 1980 with the first train being the 05:30 train from Dublin Connolly stopping on its way to Wicklow. The train guard was a railway man called Mick O' Grady who was later to become the Station Manager of Dublin Pearse in 2008 until presently.

Location

The station is located on Kilcoole Beach, right beside the coastline. There is a car-park, located to the west of the station's platform. There is no public transport to or from the station, although Dublin Bus route's 84 and 84x serve Sea Road around the Holywell area, a 10-minute walk. Kilcoole village is a 20-minute from the station while Newtownmountkennedy is an hours walk.
