Khri ma lod

Khri ma lod (7th-8th century AD)(reigned 675-689 and 704-712) was Empress consort of the Tibetan Empire, consort to Mangsong Mangtsen. She was very influential in the government and de facto empress regent of Tibet during her son's childhood and her grandson's childhood. Mother to Tridu Songtsen and grandmother to Me Agtsom, she was the actual ruler of Tibet and began the massive expansion of Tibet into the Tarim Basin and China. She had contact with Empress Wu of China and arrenged a marriage with her to bring a Han Chinese princess, Jincheng to Tibet as bride for her grandson. She eventually died by 712 for unknown reasons, possibly of old age. She remains the only woman in Tibetan history to rule Tibet.
