Etymology

Modern historians believe that the name Khachmaz derives from khachmataki tribe of Huns, which transformed into Khacmaz in the middle of 7th century. It is also interesting, that part of the tribe in the second middle of the 7th century migrated to the territory of the current Oghuz district having constructed the settlement and naming Khachmar fortress.[2][3]

The economy of Khachmaz is partially agricultural, partially tourist based, with some industries in operation.[4]

Tourism
