Kerry Madden

Kerry Madden is an author of teen novels and a professor of creative writing at the University of Alabama in Birmingham.[1] She is editor of the literary magazine, Poemmemoirstory.[2] Madden received her BA from the University of Tennessee and spent her junior year at Manchester University in England. She has an MFA in Playwriting from the University of Tennessee.[3]

Kerry Madden’s novel Offsides (William Morrow) was selected by the New York Public Library in their 1997 “Books for the Teen Age” list. Her book Writing Smarts (American Girl Library) helps kids write stories and poetry. Her novel Gentle's Holler (starred Kirkus and PW reviews) became a PEN USA Finalist in Children’s Literature and was included in the New York Public Library’s "100 Books for Reading and Sharing" and the Chicago Public Library’s "Best of the Best" lists for 2005.[4] Her companion novels, Louisiana's Song and Jessie's Mountain will be published by Viking/Penguin in 2007 and 2008. Her book, Up Close: HARPER LEE was selected as one of the Best Kirkus Books of 2009 for Young Adult Readers.[5]
