Kermit Romeo Erasmus (born 8 July 1990) is a South African footballer who currently plays for Orlando Pirates.

Career

Erasmus was promoted to the first team of Supersport United at the start of the 2007–08 season and scored the first professional goal of his career in a 3–1 league win against Ajax Cape Town on 4 March 2008.[2]

He signed a pre-contract with Dutch side Feyenoord and joined them for the 2008–2009 season after turning 18. His surname Erasmus is the same name of Desiderius Erasmus, a Dutch humanist who up and until this day is highly respected in Rotterdam, the city of his new club Feyenoord. In July 2009, it was announced Erasmus would be playing for satellite club Excelsior in the 2009–10 season, in the second division on a loan-deal, together with 7 other Feyenoord players as a result of a new partnership between the two Rotterdam-based clubs.[3]

Erasmus got off to a flying start for his new club, as he played his first match for Excelsior from start to finish and went on to score a late equaliser against Telstar. In his fifth game for Excelsior, Erasmus scored a brace against FC Eindhoven, helping his team to come back from 4–1 behind to draw 4–4. Erasmus finished his loan, playing in 30 of the 36 games for Excelsior that season, scoring eleven goals.[4]

On 10 July 2010, Feyenoord announced that Erasmus will return to his former club Supersport United, as he would not be given a chance within the first team squad. On 21 August 2010, Erasmus scored a sensational strike in the MTN 8 cup in his first competitive match against Moroka Swallows, but Supersport went on to lose on penalties and were knocked out.[5]

In 2011 he was offered a contract by Hungarian champions Videoton FC but SuperSport United rejected a 160,000 euro bid.[6]

On 23 July 2013, Irvin Khoza, the Chairman of Orlando Pirates, confirmed the signing of Erasmus.[7]

International career

He made his national team debut on 4 September 2010. He came on as a second-half substitute against Niger during a 2012 African Cup of Nations qualifier.

Erasmus' first goal for South Africa came on 7 September in the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualification match against Botswana.
