Kenny Hasbrouck

Kenny Hasbrouck (born August 14, 1986) is an American basketball player who currently plays for Mobyt Ferrara in Italy. He formerly played at Siena College where he played point guard, shooting guard, and small forward and was named a co-captain at the start of his junior season. He is from Capitol Heights, Maryland and after graduating from the Cardinal Gibbons School in Baltimore, MD, Kenny played for Maine Central Institute's post graduate basketball team before committing to Siena in May 2005. Hasbrouck was the first player recruited by coach Fran McCaffery. Hasbrouck started all 129 games in his college career. Siena retired Hasbrouck's #41 at the season end banquet. On November 20th, 2014 Hasbrouck was selected to the Siena Saints Athletic Hall of Fame on his first ballot try. ^[1]

College

Freshman season

Hasbrouck won the rookie of the year as the Siena College Saints finished 15-13 and 4th overall in the MAAC. Hasbrouck scored 25 points nailing five of fourteen three pointers as Siena clinched a bye for the MAAC tournament with a 98-92 double overtime victory against Niagara. Hasbrouck averaged 12.4 points per game, while grabbing 4.3 rebounds a contest and dishing out 2.6 assists on the season.

Sophomore season

Despite playing through back injuries throughout the year, Hasbrouck once again had a solid season. In a dramatic 76-75 double overtime win against cross-town rival UAlbany, Hasbrouck rose to the occasion scoring a game high 22 points. He scored his current career high of 36 points in an 84-78 loss at Rider. Hasbrouck played perhaps his best game of the year as Siena upset Marist 86-78 in the MAAC semifinals. Hasbrouck scored 26 points on 8 of 13 shooting leading Siena to their first MAAC championship game in five seasons. Hasbrouck was selected second team All-MAAC. He averaged 16 points per game and shot .475 from the field as the Saints finished their season at 20-12.

Junior season

Hasbrouck was selected as a co-captain along with senior Tay Fisher. Hasbrouck led Siena to an upset of # 20 Stanford at Times Union Center 79-67 on November 17. On December 9, Hasbrouck scored his 1,000 point in a win over Iona. He is one of the quickest players to reach the milestone in Siena history. In an 84-77 victory over Holy Cross, Hasbrouck added 21 points and buried a deep three to seal the win for the Saints. Hasbrouck also had some uncharacteristic games where he struggled at times at midseason.

However, he played his best basketball down the stretch as Siena captured their fourth NCAA tournament bid in school history. During a late season game at Marist, Hasbrouck posted 35 points and six rebounds as the Saints won in overtime 97-88. The junior tallied 32 points and garnered seven rebounds in the home finale against Niagara as the Saints cruised to a 94-78 victory.

After being held scoreless in the first half in the MAAC semifinal by Loyola, Hasbrouck scored 17 second half points as Siena erased a 17-point first half deficit to defeat the Greyhounds 65-63. In the MAAC championship game against Rider, Hasbrouck scored 17 points as Siena romped to a 74-53 win. Hasbrouck was voted 1st team all-MAAC by the coaches and was named the most valuable player of the MAAC tournament.

Playing in his first NCAA tournament game Hasbrouck put on one of the best displays by a Siena player in postseason history. Hasbrouck scored 30 points in 33 minutes shooting nine of 14 from the field and 10 of 10 from the foul line as Siena dominated Vanderbilt 83-62, advancing to the Round of 32 for the second time in school history. The Saints' run would end in the next round against Villanova in an 84-72 loss as Hasbrouck finished with 17 points on just five of 15 shooting. Siena finished the season with a 23-11 record; the most wins the school had attained since the 1999-2000 season when they went 24-9.

Hasbrouck finished the season with an average of 16.1 points per game. Hasbrouck led the MAAC with 2.3 steals per game and also ranked highly nationally in steals.

Hasbrouck was selected as the Mid-major Player of the year by collegeinsider.com. Siena was 85-44 in Hasbrouck's four seasons, including a 10-4 record in postseason tournaments (MAAC and NCAA).

Senior season

Hasbrouck finished his career with 1,917 points 4th on the all-time Siena scoring list. He was named the preseason player-of-year in the MAAC for the 2008-2009 season. Hasbrouck scored 20 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in Siena's 82-52 opening game win against Boise State. Hasbrouck once again led all scorers with 22 points in Siena's 74-56 win over Cornell. Hasbrouck scored just 36 points in the Old Spice Classic as Siena lost games to Tennessee, Wichita State and Oklahoma State. Hasbrouck and Siena finished the regular season at 23-7 and 16-2 in the MAAC as the Saints became just the third MAAC team to ever win 16 regular season games. On March 5 Hasbrouck was named MAAC player of the year. Hasbrouck scored 19 points as Siena beat Niagara 77-70 in the MAAC championship game to clinch their second consecutive NCAA berth. He was named MAAC tournament MVP for the second straight year. Hasbrouck struggled early but scored 12 points and grabbed 8 rebounds as Siena defeated Ohio State 74-72 in double overtime to reach the round of 32 for the second time in as many seasons. In a toughly contested second round game, Siena rallied back to take a brief second half lead against tournament number 1 seed Louisville. The Cardinals won the game by the score 79-72 after a Siena run.

Professional career

NBA

On March 16, 2010, Hasbrouck signed a contract with the Miami Heat. Hasbrouck became the first Siena College player to ever make it to the National Basketball Association.^[2] Although he never appeared in a game,^[3] the Heat re-signed him on July 28, 2010 for the 2011 NBA season. He has since then been waived.^[4]

Europe

In December 2010 he signed with Meridiano Alicante for the rest of 2010-11 season.^[5] In 2011 he signed a one year contract with the German team EWE Baskets Oldenburg.^[6] In December of 2013, Hasbrouck signed a contract to play with Mersin, of the Turkish Basketball League (TBL). For the 2014-15 season Hasbrouck signed with Ferrara of the Italian A2 silver basketball division.
