Kenmore East High School (also Kenmore East Senior High School) is a high school in the Town of Tonawanda, New York. Its name refers to the Village of Kenmore, which it serves. The school's mascot is a bulldog. The school was founded in 1959 and is the sister school to Kenmore West Senior High School. The school is run by principal Patrick Heyden, with Christine Koch and Christopher Ginestre as assistants.
Overview
Kenmore East is located in the heart of the Town of Tonawanda, New York, a suburb of Buffalo. It is one of the two high schools within the Ken-Ton School District with traditional rival high school Kenmore West being the other. The school district is run by Mark P. Mondanaro and also includes 7 Elementary schools and 3 middle schools. In 2013 Kenmore East faced closer due to constant loss in student body numbers, but more importantly the finical situation within the district. The plan was to save money by moving the students from Kenmore East and combining them with the Kenmore West students at Kenmore West. However later that year in 2013 the Board of the Ken Ton School District voted against this, but voted for the closer of some other elementary schools and a middle school (Kenmore Middle school) which will all become effective the 2014-2015 school year. Student enrollment varies from year to year with the average population of the school ranging from 1100-1300 people (students and staff) on any given school day. Kenmore East has been named a national "School of Excellence" in past years due to high performing students and faculty. Recently the school has been plagued by controversy [1] and the district leadership and current faculty are making active strides to return the school to its previously respected status as a local leader in public education.
