Kebun Raya Cibodas (KRC or the Cibodas Botanical Gardens) is a 84.99 hectares (210.0 acres) botanical garden on the slopes of Mount Gede, located in the Cibodas subdistrict of West Java, Indonesia.[1] It is operated by the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI).

The garden was founded in 1852 by the Dutch botanist Johannes Elias Teijsmann as a branch of the Bogor Botanical Gardens, however its layout was only completed under Rudolph Scheffer years later. The garden were built on higher altitude, which allowed it to grow sub-tropical plants.[2] The garden is approximately 1,300-1,425 meters above the Mean Sea Level, with average temperature of 20,06 °C and average humidity of 80,82 %.

The gardens are the first place that Cinchona trees were grown in Indonesia for quinine production in 1854. The trees was originally brought to Java by Justus Carl Hasskarl from South America and was successfully experimented in the garden.[3] Plants which are exotic to Indonesia, such as Eucalyptus from Australia, Conifers from Europe, and others are cultivated in the area.[4]

There are approximately 10.792 living specimens that live in the garden, among all there are 320 orchids, 289 cacti, 22 succulent plants, 216 algae, 103 fern and 1162 garden plants species that live within the proximity of the botanic garden. Only 114 plant species of the garden are native to West Java. Its herbarium contain approximately 4,852 preserved plants specimens.[5]

The collections are divided into 2 section outdoor and indoor. Indoors section are plants located within glasshouses which include Cactus and Orchids. While the outdoor section are divided into several subsection: [6]

In April 2014 the botanic garden opened a new section named "Rumah Kantung Semar" (translated: House of Nepenthes), it contain 55 species and 47 hybrid species of Nepenthes.[7]
