Kate Schutt is a guitarist, singer/songwriter, producer, and arranger born on January 31, 1975 in Chadds Ford, PA. She began playing the guitar and writing songs at the age of 11.[1]
Background
A lifelong athlete, Kate Schutt was an All-American athlete at Harvard[2] playing two Division-I sports—Women’s Ice Hockey[3] and Women’s Lacrosse[4] while graduating Magna Cum Laude in English Literature. In addition, she attended Boston’s famed Berklee College of Music, studying guitar for nine semesters.[5] She brings this dedication and drive to her lush, melodic, and lyrically arresting music. The Philadelphia News calls her “an enticingly languid vocalist, wry composer and sophisticated arranger in the pop/jazz vein.” In 2000, Schutt founded an independent record label, Wild Whip Records,LLC.[6][7][8] Kate lived in Guelph, Ontario, Canada (the “Austin, Texas of Canada”) from 2004 until 2010 playing and collaborating with Canadian musicians Duane Andrews, Michael Phillip Wojewoda, Andrew McPherson, and the band Gregory Pepper and His Problems.[9][10][11][12][13][14] In 2010, she relocated to Manhattan.[15] Her circle of musical friends and collaborators include Julian Lage, Scott Colley and the late guitar great Jim Hall.[16][17] Her most recent international gig [18] was in Ouro Pretal, Brazil. Her newest musical project is her band REDSTACK [19] with Julian Lage.[20]
