Kashipur, a small Tahasil, is located in the district of Rayagada in the Indian state of Orissa. Kashipur became highlighted for the 1 December 2004 [1][2][3] incidence when the police was led in a brutal attack on a people's demonstration at village Kucheipadar,[4] near the proposed alumina plant of Utkal Alumina International Limited (UAIL)[5] at Doraguda. Kashipur is well known for the Utkal Aluminium International Limited (UAIL)[6][7] and the local peoples' movement for and against the company.[8][9]
Geography
Kashipur is situated about 75 km from the district headquarters i.e. Rayagada. Kashipur is situated at lat.19° 22′N and lon. 83° 08′E. It is 75 km towards west of the district headquarters and 452 km from the state capital Bhubaneswar. The nearest Railway station is Bhalumaska and the nearest Airport is Jaypore.

Demography
Jhodia, Kondha[10][11] and Pano are the majority of the population at and nearby Kashipur. The population of Kashipur as per 2011 census,[12] is 11,809. Oriya is the local language here
