History

In olden days Poovathani was the place with a great market and the people or merchants from various places come to there with their goods and they use this 'അത്താണി' to unload their loads and get rest for a while. It was believed that the foundation of this 'അത്താണി' was in the year of 1879 December or 1880 January (കൊല്ലവര്‍ഷം 1055 മകരം 22) by a person who called 'പനമണ്ണ കയറട്ട കിഴക്കേതിൽ പറങ്ങോടൻ നായർ'. Then the place with 'അത്താണി' eventually called as 'കരിങ്കല്ലത്താണി'. Even it was re founded from there as a part of developing the town, till the 'അത്താണി' is kept there in front if Panchayath office as a symbolic of the place.
