Karin Åhlin

Karin Åhlin (25 November 1830 in Stockholm - 1899 in Stockholm) was a Swedish educator. She was the founder of the Åhlinska skolan in Stockholm, and its principal in 1847-1899.

Karin Åhlin was the daughter of major P.P. Åhlin and Wilhelmina Gustafva Norberg. At the death of her mother, she brought up and educated her siblings. She begun the accept students in her home, which developed to the Åhlinska skolan. Her work was pioneering: most schools open to girls at this point did not offer any serious or useful academic education.

In 1890, she was presented with the royal medal Illis Quorum in gold for her efforts in the girl's education in Sweden.
