Karan Malhotra is an Indian film director and screenwriter.[1][2] He is best known for his debut film Agneepath (2012 film).[3][4] Before marking his directorial debut in 2012 with Dharma Productions, he worked for ten years as an assistant director in the Hindi film industry.

Career

Malhotra worked as an assistant director in films such as Jodhaa Akbar, My Name Is Khan, and Jaan-E-Mann before remaking Dharma Productions 1990 Agneepath (1990 film).[5][6]

Malhotra and his wife Ekta Pathak Malhotra began collaborating on the screenplay for Shudhi which is slated for a 2015 release.[7]

Malhotra has begun developing a new film for Dharma Productions with wife Ekta Pathak Malhotra.[7] Whilst working on the script both Karan and Ekta made several research-based trips to Hrishikesh, one of the prominent shooting locations for the film.[7] In March 2013, producer Karan Johar officially announced that Dharma Productions had begun pre-production on a new film venture titled Shudhi.[8]

Though initially speculated that Malhotra's Shudhi would be the theatrical adaptation of Amish Tripathi's "The Immortals of Meluha", it was later proven false.[9] In September 2013, Karan Johar announced that Malhotra would be directing The Immortals of Meluha, but only after the theatrical release of Shuddhi.[10] Salman Khan will play the lead role in movie.[11]
