Kanwaljit Singh is an Indian actor who has performed in films as well as television serials. He has acted in Hindi as well as Punjabi films.[1]
Early Life And Education
Kanwaljit Singh hails from a Sikh family of Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. After graduation, he joined the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune.
Career
His first film was Dastaan-e-Laila Majnu followed by Hum Rahe Na Hum by Vijay Anand, Shart, Shaque by Ketan Anand. In the Hindi film Ashanti he had a chance to co-star with Zeenat Aman while working with top notch stars of Bollywood like Rajesh Khanna, Shabana Azmi, Parveen Babi and Mithun Chakraborty.
Two of his films, Hum Rahe Na Hum and Shaque, which he heavily banked on, did not do well at the box office. He was slotted as a failure and it was around this time that he was introduced to television (the small screen, was not a popular medium then). His role as an illegitimate child, Satbir, in Ramesh Sippy's mega serial Buniyaad, gave him instant recognition. This earned him many offers, but even at that time he did not take up anything that came his way. On the contrary he has always preferred to wait and do lesser but more meaningful roles. In the following years he was approached with roles of his choice and thus serials like Saans, Family No. 1, Dard Siski & ' Barrister Roy " happened. He also played the role of Nirmaljeet Singh Sekhon in a serial Paramveer Chakra from Doordarshan as a pilot of Indian Air Force during the 1971 war with Pakistan,Farmaan.
Kanwaljit also acted in Harbhajan Maan's movies. He starred in a number of Punjabi movies such as Mannat, Jee Aayan Nu and Dil Apna Punjabi to name a few.
Personal life
He is married to actress Anuradha Patel. They have two sons, Siddharth who currently works for Anurag Kashyap and Aditya who is an artist.
