Kaniyur is a suburb of Coimbatore city which is also a town panchayat in Tirupur District in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Kaniyur is also called Dravida Iyakkathin Thotti. It is one the 'K' village located near to udumalpet.

It is located on the banks of the Amaravathi River in the Tirupur District. Several State Ministers of the Tamil Nadu State have been born in this town namely K.A. Mathialagan, K A Krishnasamy.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census,[1] Kaniyur had a population of 15,200. Males constitute 49% of the population and females 51%. Kaniyur has an average literacy rate of 68%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 75%, and female literacy is 61%. In Kaniyur, 10% of the population is under 6 years of age.

The Youngsters of Kaniyur have started a foundation to serve people and giving awareness to people who are in back and to make Kaniyur a role model village in Tirupur district. The foundation is named Puthiya Paathai Makkal Iyakkam. . It has a pleasant climate all through the year.
