Kamla Nehru Institute of Technology (KNIT), is a state government, an autonomous engineering technical institution (under 2f & 12B of UGC act) located in Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India.
==History==[1] KNIT was established as the Faculty of Technology in Kamla Nehru Institute of Science and Technology, Lucknow, in 1976 by the Kamla Nehru Memorial Trust. It was taken over by the government of Uttar Pradesh in 1979 with a view to develop an engineering institute in the Eastern UP region, better known as the Awadh region. In 1983 it was registered as a separate society and renamed as the Kamla Nehru Institute Of Technology.. In 1986 it became an autonomous institute of Avadh University which was later renamed Ram Manohar Lohia University. In 2000, the Uttar Pradesh government established a separate technical university, Uttar Pradesh Technical University, and affiliated all the state owned engineering colleges to UPTU. UPTU was later renamed Gautam Buddh Technical University.[2]
It offers testing and consultancy services to the industry and other agencies. The institute is affiliated to U.P Technical University, Lucknow .
At present 800 institutes are affiliated to UPTU. Kamla Nehru Institute of Technology, Sultanpur has been ranked number 4 based on students performance.
In October 2012,KNIT became an autonomous engineering college in Eastern U.P.region and fully granted by UGC.
Courses of Study
Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Doctoral courses of study.
Undergraduate programs: B.Tech (4 years - 8 semesters)
The B.Tech curriculum prescribed by Gautam Buddh Technical University Lucknow comprises a full-time four year course approved by AICTE. The curriculum consists of theory courses, practicals, projects and seminars. It also provides weightage for industrial training and extracurricular activities.
The theory courses are composed of basic Science and Humanities subjects, engineering courses, core courses and departmental specialized courses with a proportion of 16%, 34% and 50% respectively. There is an emphasis on computer education, and for this each branch, except Computer Science and Engineering, and Information Technology, includes some Computing papers.
Students do their industrial training of 6 weeks at the third year level in industry. The students deliver seminars in the third year on advanced topics. ==PLACEMENT==[3] KNIT has great placement records it has average placement of around 4.5 lpa and maximum placement of around 8.5 lpa nearly 75% students are placed every year.

5% of the seats are reserved for the NRIs and 10 seats for other states nominees.
Master of Computer Applications (MCA) (3 years - 6 semesters)
This programme fulfills the industry’s need for software professionals. MCA is a six-semester full-time postgraduate programme spread over three years. The MCA Programme was introduced in the institute in 1988 with its first batch passing out in 1991, initially with an intake of 30 students, which has been increased to 60 students in 2000.
The MCA Programme runs under the Computer Science and Engineering Department. Experts from industry and academic institutions are invited to deliver lectures on advancements in the field of Computer Science.

Campus facilities and amenities
Hostels
The Institute presently has seven Boys’ Hostels to accommodate about 750 male students and one Girls’ Hostel to accommodate about 200 Girl students. One new boys’ hostel of 100 seat capacity is under the process of construction. A 240 seat capacity Girls’ Hostel is also under construction and is expected to commence early next year. Each Hostel has its own mess facility and other amenities. Hostel and mess rules are given in Annexure II, II A & II B.
Dispensary
The Institute maintains a Health Center to provide primary health care facilities to its students and staff under a full-time Medical Officer (M.O.) and pharmacists. However, cases requiring specialized treatment are referred to the District Hospital, Sultanpur.
Bank
A full branch of Punjab National Bank (PNB) and Bank of Baroda (BoB) having ATM facilities exist in the Institute campus. [5]
Post office
The Institute has an exclusive Post Office which is located at the main gate of the Institute.
Canteen
The Institute has one large cafeteria and a canteen in the hostel premises exclusively to serve the students. One canteen, located in the academic complex provides services to the staff during working hours.
Guest house
The Institute has a guest house with good accommodation and dining facilities. The accommodation for guests is arranged on request on payment at the nominal charges. The booking is made through the Officer In Charge, Guest House.
Transport facility
The Institute has a 52 seat deluxe bus for the students for their local journeys and outstation educational tours. In order to deal with medical emergencies, the Institute also has a well equipped Ambulance which is stationed 24 hours in the hostels premises with a driver.
Internet facilities
The Institute provides 24x7 Internet facility through 10 Mbit/s (1:1) leased line. This Internet facility is available in all the Academics Departments, Hostels, Library, various sections of the Institute & Guest house and also in Faculty and Technical staff Residences.
Security
Security of the Institute is looked after by a Security Agency consisting of a Security Officer and about 50 security guards. A senior faculty member is the overall in charge of the entire security setup. The whole Institute campus including academic area, administration building, hostels, and residential complex is fully covered by the security round the clock.
