Kalyani subdivision is a subdivision of the Nadia district in the state of West Bengal, India. It consists of Chakdaha municipality, Gayespur municipality, Kalyani municipality and two community development blocks: Chakdaha and Haringhata. The two blocks contain 27 gram panchayats and two census towns. The subdivision has its headquarters at Kalyani.
Area
Apart from the municipalities of Chakdaha, Gayespur and Kalyani, the subdivision contains two census towns and rural areas of 27 gram panchayats under two community development blocks: Chakdaha and Haringhata.[1] The three census towns are: Darappur, Madanpur & Nagarukhra[2]
Blocks
Chakdaha block
Rural area under Chakdaha block consists of 17 gram panchayats, viz. Chanduria–I, Hingara, Saguna, Tatla–I, Chanduria–II, Kancharapara, Sarati, Tatla–II, Dewli, Madanpur–I, Silinda–I, Dubra, Madanpur–II, Silinda–II, Ghetugachhi, Rautari and Simurali.[1] Urban area under this block consists of and two census towns: Darappur and Madanpur.[2] Chakdaha and Kalyani police stations serve this block.[3] Headquarters of this block is in Chakdaha.[4]
Haringhata block
Rural area under Haringhata block consists of ten gram panchayats, viz. Berohi–I, Haringhata–I, Kastodanga–II, Nagarukhra–I, Berohi–II, Haringhata–II, Mollabelia, Fatepur, Kastodanga–I and Nagarukhra–lI.[1] There is two urban area in this Block with consists towns: Haringhata & Nagarukhra[2] Haringhata police station serves this block.[3] Headquarters of this block is in Subarnapur.[4]
Legislative segments
As per order of the Delimitation Commission in respect of the delimitation of constituencies in West Bengal, the Chakdaha municipality and eight gram panchayats under the Chakdaha block, viz. Chanduria–I, Dubra, Ghetugachhi, Rautari, Silinda–I, Silinda–II, Tatla–I and Tatla–II, will together form the Chakdaha assembly constituency of West Bengal. The municipalities of Kalyani and Gayespur, along with seven gram panchayats under the Chakdaha block, viz. Chanduria–II, Kancharapara, Madanpur–I, Madanpur–II, Saguna, Sarati and Simurali, will form the Kalyani assembly constituency. The gram panchayats of Dewli and Hingara under the Chakdaha block and the area under the Haringhata block will together form the Haringhata assembly constituency. The constituencies of Kalyani and Haringhata will be reserved for Scheduled castes (SC) candidates. Chakdaha assembly constituency will be a segment of the Ranaghat (Lok Sabha constituency), whereas Kalyani and Haringhata will be part of the Bangaon (Lok Sabha constituency). Both the Lok Sabha constituencies will be reserved for SC candidates.[5]
