Kalpakancheri is a small village and a gram panchayat in the Malappuram district, state of Kerala, India. The name was chosen as it was the land of coconut trees. The Panchayath has many schools and had a weekly market on Wednesday. The weekly market was held in present day Melangadi, between Puthanathani and Kadungathukundu. The bigger towns like Tirur, Kottakkal and Valanchery are around 8 or 9 kilometres (5.0 or 5.6 mi) away. The panchayat was a part of the Kingdom of Tanur (Vettattnad) in medieval times. The Lord of Azhvanchery and Lord of Kalpakancheri were usually present at the coronation of a new Zamorin of Calicut. Some 20,000 people attended a Khilafat Movement meeting held in Kalpakancheri just before the 1921 Mappila rebellion. During the uprising, a Muslim gang under the leadership of Odayappurath Chekkutty from Kalpakancheri guarded Kizhake kovilakam and Arya Vaidya Sala of Kottakkal.
Kadungathukundu is the main town near Tirur on the way to Valancheri, in the Malappuram district, Kerala, south India. It is situated on the border between Kalpakancheri and Valavannur gram panchayats. Kadungathukundu is the main town of the Valavannur Gramapanchayat. This small town is a centre of academic institutions and other offices. Two higher secondary schools, an Arabic college, two industrial training centres, an un-aided high school, two primary schools, Kalpakancheri police station, Bafakhy Yatheem Khana, Valavannur Village Office and Kalpakancheri Panchayat Office are situated at Kadungathukundu.
