Kalkallo is a town in Victoria, Australia, 33 km north of Melbourne's central business district. Its local government area is the City of Hume.
Located on the Hume Freeway, Kalkallo has a few streets, a service station and a pub. It is surrounded by farms not yet developed by the urban sprawl of Melbourne. The nearest access to public transport is the Donnybrook railway station.
History
Kinlochewe Post Office opened on 1 November 1850, was renamed Donnybrook in 1854 and Kalkallo in 1874, before closing in 1971.[1]
Today
Today Kalkallo is the focus of the new Merrifield development being undertaken by MAB Corporation and Gibson Property Corporation. Merrifield is an 880 hectare $8 Billion mixed use development located on the corner of Donnybrook Road and the Hume Highway. The Minister for Planning has recently rezoned 415 hectares of the property to the Comprehensive Development Zone and development will commence in 2008.
Merrifield has been planned as an integrated mixed use development with capacity to provide 20,000 new jobs and homes for up to 30,000 people.
