Kalgachia

Kalgachia (Assamese: কলগাছিয়া) is a semi urban town of Barpeta district, Assam, India. It is 33 kilometres (21 mi) west of district headquarters Barpeta.

Kalgachia is a Mia Muslim (East Bengal rooted Muslim) based town. The census of India shows that 98% people of the people in this town are Muslim. The total population is 29,000 where 17,000 are male and 12,000 are female.

History

It is not clear, when the village is established but a few official document says that the village was established 16th century .Here, it is available large number of Kolgos (Banana tree) so the name has become Kalgachia (place where banana trees are found).Popular stories refers to the existence of an Assamese Hindu dominated period in the region, which popularised the name 'Kalitapara'[1]

Education

Nabajyoti College is the main attraction of Kalgachia.[2] There are many private institutions in this place. Ataur Rahman College of Education [3] and B.B. College are another two attraction of closer to this town. Epitome Computer Institute is the oldest and only certified computer education establishment[[4]] and A large number of good quality of English Medium School are Al-Ameen Academy.K.K.Pathak high school is one of the most oldest school of this town.Kalgachia Commerce College is the only commerce college of this town.Some private sectors school of this town are, Radiance Academy,Royal Global English Academy,Fakaruddin Ali Ahmed junior college etc.

Traport and Communication

Kalgachia is well communicate with buses and small vehicles. The nearest railway station is Barpeta Railway Station and the nearest airport is Gopinath Bordoloi international Airport ,Guwahati

Medical Service

The Civil Hospital of Barpeta is situated centrally at Kalgachia Town. In spite of that there is also PHCH at Kalgachia Town.

Emergency Service

Kalgachia police outpost is declared as police station and Fire Brigade service is also available.
