Kalambur is a panchayat town in Polur taluk, Tiruvanamalai district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census, Kalambur had a population of 13,291.[1] Males constituted 49.6% of the population and females 50.4%.[1] Kalambur had an average literacy rate of 75%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy was 79%, and female literacy was 57%. In 2001 in Kalambur, 11% of the population was under 6 years of age.[2]

Kalambur has numerous temples with an important Shivan temple - Kasi Visuvanathar, Visalachi and Veera Anjineyar (Hanuman) temple. Shaneeshwaran temple is located about 1.5 kms from Kalambur, is place named Yeri Kuppam, which falls under Kalambur Panchayat.

Economy

Kalambur is noted for rice production. The town has several rice mills. around 70 rice mills. The rice from Kalambur is supplied to other parts of Tamil Nadu and the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies. It is also exported to Singapore and Malaysia directly.

Based on the purification methods deployed here, Kalambur rices are having high quality and it is very good for health.

The town is also locally famous for its silk sarees.

Almost entire peoples of this town celebrates, Tamil New Years Day "Chithirai Mudhal Naal" or "Lakcha deepa Thiruvizha" on this vocation people pray to Veera Anjaneyar(Jai Anuman). This is the great and grand festival celebrated every year.
