KQQX (93.3 FM) is a commercial radio station in Steelville, Missouri, with an FCC construction permit to move to Hermann, Missouri, broadcasting to the western suburbs of the Saint Louis, Missouri, area.

KQQX aired (until going silent in August 2010) a modern rock music format branded as "93X", following suit of the similarly branded 93X, KXXR in the Minnesota Twin Cities, as well as the Memphis WMFS-FM.

As of November 2008, KQQX has ended the 93X format and is moving to its new home. The station's new format is unknown and the station will continue to market to St. Louis' Westplex area.

History

Originally airing in Steelville, Missouri, with call letters KNSX, owner Twenty-One Sound Communications sought to sell the station in September, 2007 for a reported $15 million. No suitable buyers were found. On December 14, 2007, the FCC approved a call letter change to KQQX, as well as a construction permit for the station to move to Hermann, Missouri.

Construction permit

Pursuant to FCC regulations, KQQX plans to build a new tower and 50,000 watt transmitter in Hermann, MO. This move should better serve the West suburban area of St. Louis. The new transmitter will broadcast the station from Columbia to St. Louis, as well as from Hannibal to Steeleville. This is part of a restructioning of the Twenty-One Sound Communications plan to form a stable cluster of radio stations in and around the St. Louis market.

Currently the owners are looking for an investment partner to help carry out this plan.

Digital broadcast

KQQX was one of the first FM stations that was digitally automated with no live DJs. The station also was a pioneer with webcasting a live feed online via Real Audio, of which KQQX was among the top 10 most listened to webstreams in 1997-1998.
