KNOX (1310 AM, "News Talk 1310 KNOX") is a radio station broadcasting an news/talk format serving Grand Forks, North Dakota. The station is currently owned by Leighton Broadcasting. KNOX also rebroadcasts on translator K300BG 107.9 FM in Grand Forks.

The station broadcasts ABC News updates. The station also broadcasts local high school hockey, football, and basketball games on occasion, and also Minnesota Timberwolves basketball, Minnesota Wild hockey, and Minnesota Twins baseball games.

History

KNOX signed on in 1949 with a full service format blending music, news, talk, and radio dramas. It later became a Top 40 station, and changed to a mainly News/Talk format in the 1980s. Co-owned station KCNN was the former home of "Hot Talk" until Scott Hennen was promoted for a talk-show host job on WDAY-AM in Fargo, North Dakota. "Hot Talk" became replaced with "Mac Talk" with Mike McNamara on KNOX, who was stationed in Iraq as a Marine until August 2006.

In 2011, KNOX became the flagship for the newly syndicated conservative talk host Scott Hennen after his tenure at WZFG AM 1100 "The Flag" in Fargo.

On January 11, 2012, KNOX began broadcasting on FM translator K300BG 107.9 FM in Grand Forks. 107.9 previously was broadcasting KGFK AM 1590, which moved to 95.7 FM as it has a stronger signal in Grand Forks.

Awards

The station is a finalist for the 2008 Crystal Radio Award for public service awarded by the National Association of Broadcasters.^[1] Finalists will be honored and winners announced at the Radio Luncheon on April 15, 2008, during the NAB Show in Las Vegas, Nevada.
