KENV-DT, virtual channel 10, is the NBC-affiliated television station in Elko, Nevada. Owned by Intermountain West Communications Company and operated by Sinclair Broadcast Group, it is a sister station of KRNV-DT in Reno. It serves as the NBC affiliate for part of the Nevada side of the Salt Lake City market. It broadcasts a high definition digital signal on VHF channel 10 from a transmitter on Grindstone Mountain. This can also be seen on Satview Cable channel 10.[1]

Though identifying as a station in its own right, KENV is reckoned as a semi-satellite of KRNV. KENV has studios on the campus of Great Basin College on 1025 Chilton Circle in Elko along I-80, though some internal operations are handled at KRNV's studios on Vassar Street in Reno. It simulcasts KRNV except for local inserts, commercials, and identifications.

History

On March 25, 1997, KENV signed-on as a semi-satellite of KRNV, extending its signal into Northeastern Nevada; it remains the only full-powered television station in Elko. KENV started broadcasting digital-only on March 26, 2009, after its analog transmitter broke down and forced a switch to digital three months ahead of schedule.

On November 22, 2013, Sinclair Broadcast Group announced the acquisition of KRNV's non-license assets, for $26 million.[2] On December 19, it was announced that Cunningham Broadcasting will acquire the license assets of KRNV and KENV for $6.5 million.[3][4] Since Sinclair already owns Fox affiliate KRXI-TV, it could not buy KRNV/KENV outright.
