K. T. Kunjumon

K. T. Kunjumon (Tamil: கே.டி.குஞ்சுமோன்; born on 15 November 1953) is a Tamil film producer and writer. Among the 11 films produced so far Gentleman was his first major hit, setting many records for Tamil film production. Later Kaadhalan and Kadhal Desam were also successful. Ratchagan remained the most expensive film in Tamil film industry till 1998. Notably A. R. Rahman composed the music for these films.

Career

After finishing his school education Kunjumon worked in the travel agency business and then the hotel industry, before he became a film producer. He entered to film industry as a distributor and distributed approximately 350 films in different languages, in Tamil and Malayalam. He dubbed many films from Tamil to Malayalam, Telugu and Hindi. He produced Malayalam films in the late 1980s and began to produce Tamil films from 1991. He owned the film production company A.R.S.Movies Pvt Ltd.

Gentleman and Kaadhalan

K. T. Kunjumon introduced director S. Shankar in the Gentleman film in the year 1993 and later they were work together in Kaadhalan film in 1994. Both films were blockbusters at the Tamil box office.

Sets of Kadhal Desam

Kadhal Desam is a love story featuring college students. The college sets were very grand,designed by the art director Thotta Tharani on 72 acres of land in G V Garden, Mahabalipuram, at a cost of around 2 crore, more than ever before in Tamil film.

Ratchagan

Kunjumon written and produced Ratchagan which was directed by Praveen Gandhi. This film assembled a notable cast that includes Nagarjuna, Raghuvaran, Girish Karnad, Miss Universe Sushmita Sen, S. P. Balasubrahmanyam, Subhalekha Sudhakar and Vadivelu. The music was composed by A. R. Rahman, with lyrics written by Vairamuthu and Vaali. Later this film was dubbed into Telugu as Rakshakudu.
