Kota Srinivas Vyas (Telugu: కోట శ్రీనివాస్ వ్యాస్, popularly known as K. S. Vyas) was an Andhra Pradesh cadre IPS officer of 1974 batch. He is regarded as an outstanding officer during his career both by the people and the police department.

Personal life

Vyas married Aruna in 1976. Aruna Vyas completed masters in English and Sanskrit. She is an author, literary speaker and translated books of Tirumala Tirupathi Devasthanam from Sanskrit to Telugu. Her views on Telugu literature is published in the name of "Sahithi Sourabhaalu". She also authored "Ramaayana - A timeless odyssey in psychology". Aruna Vyas worked as Andhra Pradesh Film Censor board adviser.

Vijayawada Urban District SP

Vyas worked as the first superintendent of police (SP) for the Vijayawada urban district formed in 1983 during which his team could effectively control the rowdyism and lawlessness prevalent in that area and restore peace.

Greyhounds Establishment

He is the founder and visionary behind the establishment of elite police force Greyhounds (police) in 1986 which is remarkably successful against eliminating Maoist extremism from Andhra Pradesh. As a part of Greyhounds, strengthening of infrastructure, communications, intelligence wings taken up by him,which is unmatched with any other police force across India.

Hyderabad Posting

During his tenure he introduced zebra crossing and encourased helmet usage in the city. Many initiatives adopted by him substantially improved the chaotic traffic situation earlier existed. Vyas worked as the joint director of the Andhra Pradesh Police Academy (APPA).

Death

He was allegedly killed at gun point by the naxals of PWG on January 27, 1993 while jogging at Lal Bahadur Stadium in Hyderabad.[1]

Memorials

1) A Police complex built by Police department has been named after KS Vyas in Vijayawada.

2) Every year on his death anniversary, Ks Vyas memorial lecture held at AP Police Academy.
