Jumio is an online and mobile payments and identity verification company that provides ID scanning and validation products for mobile and web transactions.[1] The company provides card and ID scanning technology.[2]
History
The company was founded in 2010 by CEO Daniel Mattes and is backed by investors including Andreessen Horowitz,[3] Citi Ventures [4] and Facebook Co-Founder,[5] Eduardo Saverin.[6]
Daniel Mattes was inspired by a transaction problem he experienced during a French holiday, when he was unable to complete a transaction due to fraud control measures on a travel website. This experience built on prior fraud prevention verification protocol technology developed at Jajah.[7]
Jumio launched the Bitcoin Identity Security Open Network in March 2014, with the goal of bringing greater trust and confidence to the Bitcoin ecosystem.[8] The network is made up of Bitcoin exchanges, wallets, and ATM providers[9] and allows members to easily collect and verify buyer identities during mobile transactions.[10]
Operations
Headquartered in Palo Alto, Jumio operates globally with additional offices in Europe and Asia. Daniel Mattes is CEO.[11]
The company has three main products for businesses, Netverify, Netswipe and Fastfill:
- Netverify scans and validates customer passports, driver licenses and ID cards in real-time.[12]
- Netswipe technology scans a consumer’s credit card with a computer or phone camera so that the user doesn’t have to manually enter their credit card payment information.[13] By providing an extra layer of identity validation, the technology reduces fraudulent transactions for online retailers.[14]
- Fastfill, automates entry of a customer's personal information into mobile app forms.[15] Customers take a picture of their ID with their mobile device, and the information is then automatically extracted to populate forms, providing a way for consumers to open accounts and complete web registration forms.[16]
Clients include Travelocity,[17] Western Union[18] Airbnb,[19] and BitInstant.[20]
