Park Jin Young (Hangul: 박진영 ; Hanja: 朴珍榮 ; born September 22, 1994), commonly known by his stage name Jr., is a South Korean singer and member of the duo JJ Project and the hip-hop group Got7 under JYP Entertainment.

Biography

Park Jin Young was born in South Korea on September 22, 1994 (20 years old). He was scouted by JYP Entertainment from JYP Trainee Open Recruitment 5th Audition, where he tied in first place with JB. He then underwent training for 2 years and 6 months before his debut. His stage name "Jr." is because his name is identical as that of Park Jin Young, his producer. [1]

On December 24, 2013, it was revealed that Jr would be part of the new 7 member hip-hop group called Got7.[2]

He graduated from Kyunggi High School on the 7th of February 2013 and entered the Howon University with Major in Performance. [3]

History

Pre-debut

In 2011, Jr. was cast in a role (as Jung Ui-bong) with Kang So-ra, Jin Woon, Ji Yeon, JB, Hyorin and Park Seo-joon[4] in the drama entitled Dream High 2. The drama began broadcasting, January 30, 2012 on KBS.[5]

On February 3, 2012 was revealed that JB and Jr. from Dream High 2 will debut as boy band JJ Project sometime during the second half of 2012 through JYP Entertainment. Both became JYP trainees after they tied for first at the 5th JYP Open Auditions in 2009. Their recent appearances in Dream High 2 have placed them in the media spotlight, allowing them to officially launch their singing activities.[6]

On February 29, 2012 he released his OST song "We Are The B" for KBS's Dream High 2 together with Jinwoon, Kang So-ra and Kim Ji-soo.[7] On March 11, 2013, it was announced that Jr. would be appearing as Seo Mi-joon on MBC's new drama When a Man Falls in Love with his bandmate JB.[8]

2012: Debut as JJ Project

On May 7, JYP Entertainment has revealed a teaser video for the 1st Single Album "JJ Project Slot Machine".[9] On May 9, another video teaser entitled, "JYP 007" was uploaded through JJ Project's official YouTube account.[10] On May 17, 2012, JYP Entertainment released the final teaser,[11] and on May 19, the official music video for title track "Bounce" was released through their official YouTube account and the duo debuted their promotions for "Bounce" on M! Countdown on May 24, 2012.[12]

2014: Debut as Got7

On January 1, 2014, it was announced that the two members of JJ Project would debut as part of a 7-member boy band called Got7.[13] On January 7, 2014, JYP Entertainment released the teaser images for Jr. along with the teaser images of his group members Youngjae and BamBam. [14] Their debut song "Girls Girls Girls" and the music video for the track were released on January 14, 2014. [15]
