The Journal-Courier is an American daily newspaper published in Jacksonville, Illinois. It is owned by Ohio Community Media, a subsidiary of Versa Capital Management.
With a history dating back to 1830, the Journal-Courier claims to be the "oldest continuously published newspaper in Illinois".[3] The Jacksonville Courier merged with the The Jacksonville Daily Journal to form the Jacksonville Journal-Courier on July 11, 1983.[4]
In addition to Jacksonville and South Jacksonville, the Journal-Courier circulates in Cass, Greene, Macoupin, Morgan and Scott counties, in western Central Illinois.[1]
The Journal-Courier is one of three daily newspapers that Ohio Community Media owns outside the state of Ohio. The other two are The Telegraph, in nearby Alton, Illinois, and the Sedalia Democrat in Missouri. These three newspapers, along with The Lima News in Ohio, constituted the Central Division of Freedom Communications before being sold to Ohio Community Media in May 2012.[5] Freedom acquired the paper from Thomson in 1995.[6]
