Joseph Paulo (born 2 January 1988) is a Samoan Australian rugby league player who currently plays for the Parramatta Eels in the National Rugby League (NRL). Paulo's position of choice is as a second-row, and he can also lock the scrum and play five-eighth. He has played internationally for both Samoa and the United States.
Representative career
Paulo was born in Auckland and attended Patrician Brothers' College Blacktown. He is of American Samoan and Niuean descent, and so is eligible for both Samoa and the USA at international level.[2] He is also an Australian Schoolboys international.[3]
Paulo began his NRL career at the Penrith Panthers after playing his junior rugby league at the St Clair Comets. Paulo made a mid-season switch to Parramatta in the 2011 season.
Paulo was named in the Samoan squad for the 2008 Rugby League World Cup.[4][5]
In 2009 he was named as part of the Samoan side for the Pacific Cup.[6]
However, in 2011 he switched his allegiance to the USA and was named to the United States national team for the 2013 Rugby League World Cup Qualifiers, making his debut in the tournament.[7]
He captained the United States in the 2013 Rugby League World Cup.
