Joseph Marcell (born 18 August 1948) is a St. Lucian-born English actor, best known for his role as Geoffrey the English butler on the NBC sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. He currently resides in Southall, Ealing, in London.
Life and career
Born in St Lucia, Marcell moved to the UK when he was nine years old.[1] He studied theatre and science at college, then took courses in speech and dance at the University of Sheffield, Yorkshire.[2]
As a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company, he appeared in productions of Othello and A Midsummer Night's Dream. He has also appeared often on British television and in feature films.[2]
He serves on the board of the Globe Theatre in London, where he featured in a nationwide production of Shakespeare's King Lear.[3]
