José Ángel Alonso Martín, simply known as José Ángel (born 2 March 1989), is a Spanish footballer who plays for Elche CF as a central defender.

Football career

Born in Salamanca, Castile and León, José Ángel graduated from UD Salamanca's youth system, and made his senior debuts with the reserves in the 2008–09 season, in Tercera División. In the 2010 summer he was promoted to the first team, in Segunda División.

On 3 October 2010 José Ángel played his first game as a professional, coming on as a late substitute in a 1–0 away win against Villarreal CF B.[1] He featured in eight matches during the campaign, as the Charros were relegated to Segunda División B.

On 20 July 2013 José Ángel moved to Elche CF, being assigned to the reserve side also in the third level, after Salamanca's dissolution.[2] After featuring regularly with the B's, he was definitely promoted to the main squad on 27 July of the following year,[3] and signed a new three-year deal on 21 August.[4]

José Ángel made his La Liga debut on 24 August, starting as a defensive midfielder in a 0–3 away loss against FC Barcelona.[5]

Personal life

José Ángel's older brother, Jorge, is also a footballer. A midfielder, he too was groomed at Salamanca.
