Jorunn Økland

Jorunn Økland (born 1964) is a Norwegian theologian and gender studies expert. She is Professor of Gender Studies in the Humanities at the University of Oslo (from 2007) and Director of its Centre for Gender Research (from 2010). Her fields of expertise are ancient mediterranean material culture, feminist critique of religion, gender and sacred texts, and cultural/secular uses of the Bible.[1] She is President of the European Association of Biblical Studies (from 2009)[2] and chair of the Council for Gender Studies in Norway (from 2010). She has worked as a researcher at the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters Centre for Advanced Study and as a senior lecturer at the University of Sheffield.[3]
