Jorge Manuel Guerreiro Soares (born 22 October 1971 in Aljustrel) is a retired Portuguese professional footballer who played as a centre back.
Club career
Born in the Aljustrel, near Beja, Soares joined Farense at 16 years old, climbing through the youth ranks, and playing more than 130 league games in his 6-year spell al São Luis. After scoring against Benfica in 1995–96 season, he move to the 'Reds' in the following season.
During his two-year spell with the 'Eagles', he partnered with Bermudez, Hélder, or Tahar. After Hélder joined Deportivo de La Coruña in the winter transfer season of 1996, he gained his position as starter. In a match against Porto, Soares was unsuccessful at blocking a cross directed toward Jardel, who stopped it with his chest and scored.[1][2]
He then played for Marítimo for six seasons, leaving in 2003 to join União Madeira, where he stayed one year. In 2004, he returned to Algarve, joining Louletano until the end of his career in 2008.
