Master Fernando Jorge Gomes Ramos (F. Jorge Ramos) is an Olympic class taekwondo coach with 37 years of experience. Fernando Jorge Gomes Ramos was born in Guinea-Bissau. He is part of a new generation of African Taekwondo Masters establishing the place of Africa in modern Taekwondo.

Career

He has spent most of his time in France since 1997. As athlete (fifteen years) he made his career between Spain, Portugal (four times national champion) and France.

His last official appearance as a fighter was the International Open of France in Anthony in 1997 (gold medal middleweight category and MVP of the tournament).

He is the first African Master to achieve two gold medals with an African team at two consecutives Taekwondo world championship (Copenhagen 2009 and Beijing 2007).

Ramos teaches Taekwondo at the CSMG Genneviliers Club (France). Together with Master Chindavong Valy (former member of the French national team) they train and coach the Paris region team (CRT Ile de France) a team that have won the Taekwondo Team French Cup several times and was rewarded in different European international tournaments.

Among former members of the "CRT Ile de France team" is Daba Modibo Keïta from Mali, a heavyweight world champion 2009 and 2007; the first African to become double Taekwondo World Champion.

As complement of information the gold medal of the First ParaTaekwondo World Championship Kong Bopha (-54) from the French National team is another student formed and trained by Master Ramos.

As coach he has participated at the World Championships 2009, 2007,[1][2] 2005, the Beijing 2008 Olympic games, the 2007 Olympic World tournament (Manchester), the 2007 African Olympic qualification Tournament (Libya), the 2007 All African Games (Algeria), and different international A class tournaments all over the world (Paris International Tournament, Dutch Open, German Open, British open, Croatia, Us Open, Egypt International Port Said Open, China, etc.)

Among his students there are several French National Champions and members of the French national team (rewarded at European Championships, world championships and International A class tournaments) and other successful athletes from different countries including Austria, Brazil, Mali, and Portugal.

Awards

At the 2005 World Championship the Mali national team coached by Jorge Ramos was rewarded for the first time in is history by the WTF with the fighting spirit trophy.

On April 10, 2009, he was inducted to the Taekwondo Hall of Fame and rewarded World Coach of the year,[3] the first time this awarded to an African coach.

He was one of five coaches awarded Best Coach by the World Taekwondo Federation at the 2009 World Taekwondo Championship in Copenhagen.[4][5] He become the first African coach in the Taekwondo history to win this award.
