Jonathan O'Rourke (born 21 April 1994) is a professional Australian rules football player at the Hawthorn Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL).

Drafted

O'Rourke was known as an inside midfielder with a hunger for contested football with good speed and endurance. A product of the Calder Cannons, O'Rourke was awarded 2012 All Australian honours following the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships. He was recruited by the Greater Western Sydney club in the 2012 National Draft, with pick #2.

Greater Western Sydney

His rookie year blighted by injuries for with hamstring problems and a broken jaw. O'Rourke made his debut in Round 16, 2013, against Sydney at the Sydney Cricket Ground.[1] O'Rourke spent the early part of the 2014 season playing for the Giants in the NEAFL. He managed to break into the Giant's AFL team and stringing seven successive games before injuring his hamstring to miss the last game of the season.

Hawthorn

At the end of the 2014 season he requested a trade back to Melbourne. He nominated Hawthorn was his club of choice. Hawthorn and GWS agree to a trade, Hawthorn trade picks 19 and 40 for O'Rourke and pick 43.

Personal life

Growing up, O'Rourke supported the Richmond Football Club. He cites Roger Federer and Chris Judd as being among his sporting heroes.[2]
