Playing career

Junior

Jonathan played his entire junior hockey career with the Quebec Remparts in the QMJHL. Audy-Marchessault joined Quebec as a 16 year old for the 2007-08 season after being drafted by them in the 12th round.[1]

In 2009-10, Audy-Marchessault won the Gaétan Duchesne Trophy as Quebec's best defensive player.[2] Audy-Marchessault was named player of the week in both the QMJHL and CHL for the week ending December 13, 2010.[3]

As Quebec's assistant captain[4] in his final junior hockey season Audy-Marchessault finished 6th in the QMJHL in scoring during the regular season.[5] He led the league in game-winning goals for that season with 11.[6] In the 2011 playoffs, he led the league in scoring even though Quebec was eliminated in the semi-finals.[7][8][9] He became the first player to lead the QMJHL in playoff scoring despite not playing in the final round.[1][10]

Audy-Marchessault was named the QMJHL top star of the week for the week ending September 19, 2010.[11] He was also named CHL player of the week for the week ending April 3, 2011 during the playoffs.[12][13] At the end of the season, Audy-Marchessault was awarded the Bud Light Cup as Quebec's player of the year.[14] He was named a QMJHL First Team All-Star.[9][15][16][17]

On June 23, 2011, he signed his first professional contract with the New York Rangers' AHL affiliate, the Connecticut Whale, on a recommendation by Dean Stork, coach of the ECHL Greenville Road Warriors.[18][19][20][21] Former Rempart teammates Ryan Bourque and Kelsey Tessier are also in the Rangers organization.[15][18][19] Audy-Marchessault began his professional career in 2011-12 with the Connecticut Whale.[4][20][21][22]

In his second professional game with the Whale on October 9, 2011, Audy-Marchessault scored the game winner in a shootout in a game against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.[23] He scored his first official professional goal on October 22, 2011 in a game against the Springfield Falcons.[24] In his first professional season, he tied for the Whale team lead with 64 points, leading the team with 40 assists and adding 24 goals.[25]

After the 2011–12 season, Audy-Marchessault signed a three year entry level contract as a free agent with the Columbus Blue Jackets.[26]

Beginning with the 2013–14 season, Audy-Marchessault dropped 'Audy' from his last name. In his second season with Columbus, at the trade deadline on March 5, 2014, he was traded by the Blue Jackets, along with Dalton Smith, to the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for Dana Tyrell and Matt Taormina.[27] On April 11, 2015, the Tampa Bay Lightning recalled Marchessault from the Syracuse Crunch to replace an ill Jonathan Drouin in the final game of the season. Marchessault has played in 64 games with Syracuse this season, leading the Crunch with 41 assists and 54 points. He is second on the team in goals with 23, and his six power-play goals are tied for second.[28] On April 11, 2015, Marchessault recorded his first NHL goal and point in a Tampa Bay Lightning 3-2 shootout victory over the visiting Boston Bruins. Marchessault was also named the games first start by the attending media.[29] On April 12, 2015, the Lightning reassigned Marchessault to the Syracuse Crunch to join them for the remainder of the regular season and the playoffs.[30]
