Jonathan A. Jones

Jonathan A. Jones (born 1967) is a Professor of atomic and laser physics at the University of Oxford,[1] and a fellow and tutor in physics at Brasenose College, Oxford.[2] Although trained in chemistry, he is active in physics, especially for his work on NMR quantum computation for which he was awarded the 2000 Marlow Medal of the Royal Society of Chemistry.[3] His main research interest is in quantum computation.[4]

In 2011, Jones made a successful Freedom of Information request to obtain climate data from the Climatic Research Unit of the University of East Anglia. The decision was reported to be a "landmark ruling" and a "victory for critics of the UEA" by Fred Pearce of The Guardian.[5] Jones said that he made the FOI request after Steve McIntyre's similar request was rejected. UEA had resisted this and previous requests. "My sole aim [in pursuing the case] is to help restore climate science to something more closely resembling scientific norms," Jones said.[5]
